– SATURDAY – STATE LEAGUE MEN –
Saturday saw our State 5 men return to Morshead Park to take on Barwon SC under the lights of the synthetic.
With the absence of Angus Martin, Declan Hennessey, Sam Smith and Nick Lavery the boys had to step up to the plate and show us what they are made of. But in the 5th minute the visitors got a lucky one through to open their account. Our boys fought hard from then on.
A sickening clash in the 45th forced Connor Tabbitt from the pitch with a mild concussion and resulted in another goal to Barwon.
Our boys went in with heads high confident they could turn it around in the second half. With the large crowd behind us we were on fire. Several great plays but the best was 9 minutes into the second half from Liam Haintz running down the centre of the pitch to start our fight back. GOAL!!!!!
We lost Jack Sheehan in the 60th minute when he got his lower arm caught between an opponents legs. It was a suspected broken wrist. We fought well but simply couldn’t find those goals again.
End result a 1-2 loss.
In the reserves the visitors proved to be the better side on the day. They led 0-1 at half time and scored again in the 76th.
Brendan Pym gave us hope 3 minutes later with a goal.
But Barwon scored two very late goals 86th & 90th to take the 3 points 1-4

– SUNDAY – STATE LEAGUE WOMEN –
Second round Nike Cup Match and first official hit out on Trekardo for 2021.
Our State 3 Ladies took on Mazenod FC, a state league 1 team.
Well the Benoit show started early as Tina put one away in the 4th minute of the match leaving the opponents stunned. But when Allyson Pym scored a cracker in the 40th the girls and the crowd went nuts. Half time we were up 2-0.
Second half was tight, we defended our lead gallantly but Mazenod got one through to score in the 69th to get that one goal back. Rushy went down with a shoulder injury shortly after but these girls showed so much heart and courage to deny the visitors the right to score again. BSC through to the third round with a 2-1 win.

We wish all the best to Connor (Concussion), Jack (Broken Wrist) and Rushy (Dislocated Shoulder) Speedy recovery guys.
